Subject: Uss Bennington web site Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 12:26:19 EST From: KenPage@aol.com To: bcopeland@uss-bennington.org, lonnie@lpwe.com CC: jkpires@capecod.net I received your email addresses from Joseph L. Pires. For quite some time I have been trying to obtain the names, etc. of individuals who died in the service of their country in places other than Korea during the period from June 25 1950 to July 27 1954 (1 year after the armistice). I was able to obtain a great deal of information on USAF plane crashes but was not having much success with ARMY, NAVY or MARINE deaths except for what members of our chapter found by reading microfiche of newspapers from the early 1950s. While working on some matters involving the USS Boxer I was told that there were quite a few deaths aboard the Bennington. I then found the USS Bennington site and, lo and behold, there was a list of casualties from the 1953 explosion and the 1954 explosion. I see that Joe Pires did a lot of the typing for the web site. He and others responsible for maintaining the web site are to be congratulated for all of the work put in to have a great deal of information available to others. Kenneth E.
